چکیده

In recent years acenaphthene has been found to cause polyploidy in plants. Shmuck (1938), Kostoff (1938a, 1938b), Navaskin (1938), and Shmuck and Gusseva (1939) have indicated that acenaphthene may be superior to colchicine for inducing mutations in higher plants. Ark (1946) reported that induced, permanent mutations were formed in broth saturated with acenaphthene in Phytomonas michigatiensis and Erwinia carotovora. Luria (1947) reports, however, that Ark's results suggest selection for mutants rather than induction of mutations. The present report is concerned with the effect of an isomeric sulfonate of acenaphthene on a strain of Eberthella typhosa. This aromatic compound is sodium acenaphthene(5)sulfonate.

A Study of Two Atypical Strains of E. typhosa.

In 1937, two atypical strains of Eberthella typhosa were isolated twenty-five days apart from patients presenting clinical symptoms of typhoid fever. Blood and feces from one patient, and blood from the other, yielded organisms atypical of E. typhosa in that they showed delayed fermentation of lactose and sucrose, but failed to produce hydrogen sulfide. Both patients gave a history of having ea...

Histopathological evaluation of dental pulp of cat after using of sodium sulfonate in composite restorative treatment

Introduction : Previous researches showed that neutral soaps significantly increased bond strength and decreased microleakage of dentin bonding agents. The aim of this study was histopathological evaluation of the effect of sodium sulfonate application as neutral soap on the cat's dental pulp after an ideal composite restorative treatment .  Methods: Ten adult cats with 40 caries-f...

Antagonism by Aerobacter Strains.

The literature on the antagonistic action of members of the genus Aerobacter is rather scanty. Winslow and Cohen (1918a, 1918b) reported that when a mixture of 46 per cent BaciUus aerogenes cells and 54 per cent Bacillus coli cells suspended in unsterilized tap water was stored 60 days, only 29 per cent of the remaining cells were B. coli. A slight degree of antagonism might conceivably have ex...

Effects Produced by the Intravenous Injection in Man of a Toxic Antigenic Material Derived from Eberthella Typhosa: Clinical, Hematological, Chemical and Serological Studies.

The preparation of purified antigenic materials from cultures of Eberthella typhosa (1, 2) has demonstrated that substances of relative purity, and high antigenic and toxic activity, may be isolated for study. In investigations utilizing a synthetic medium for the culture of E. typhosa (3), which eliminates the possibility of non-specific contaminating materials (derived from the culture medium...
